Boaters have raised complaints against personal watercraft, commonly known as Jet Skis. Some of the most common grievances include excessive noise, reckless operation, and collisions. Do not have common courtesy by jumping the wake of a passing boat or riding too close to another PWC or boat. Additionally, many boaters complain about the lack of safety features and regulations for Jet Skis, which can lead to accidents and injuries.
Other complaints include the environmental impact of personal watercraft, such as the potential for oil spills and disruption of marine life. These complaints highlight the need for better safety regulations and education for Jet Ski operators.
If you plan on using a Jet Ski, being a courteous rider is essential to ensure your and others’ safety. Here are some tips to help you be a good Jet Ski rider:
1. Keep a safe distance from other boaters and swimmers. This will help prevent collisions and injuries.
2. Follow all boating and Jet Ski laws and regulations. This includes wearing a life jacket, not operating the Jet Ski under the influence, and obeying speed limits and no-wake zones.
3. Avoid making excessive noise. Jet Skis can be loud, so try to be mindful of noise levels and avoid revving the engine unnecessarily.
4. Be aware of your surroundings. Watch for other boats, obstacles, and changing weather conditions.
5. Respect the environment. Avoid disturbing marine life and be mindful of potential oil spills.
Following these tips can help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for yourself and others while using a Jet Ski.

The approximate average lifespan of a Personal Watercraft (PWC) is around 300 hours of use. However, some models can last longer with proper maintenance and care. It’s essential to follow the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule and to store the PWC properly when not in use to ensure maximum lifespan.
Here are some tips on how to expand the lifespan of your Personal Watercraft (PWC):
- Follow the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule: Regular maintenance can help prevent breakdowns and extend the life of your PWC. Regular maintenance includes regular oil changes, filter replacements, and tune-ups.
- Properly store your PWC when not in use: When your PWC is not in use, store it in a dry, covered area to protect it from the elements. If you keep it outside, use a high-quality cover to protect it from the sun and rain.
- Flush the engine after each use: Saltwater can be corrosive to the engine and other parts of the PWC. Flushing the engine with fresh water after each use can help to remove any salt and prevent corrosion.
- Use high-quality fuel and oil: High-quality fuel and oil can help prevent engine damage and extend the life of your PWC.
- Avoid overloading your PWC: Overloading your PWC can put unnecessary strain on the engine and other parts, shortening its lifespan. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations on weight limits.
- Be gentle with the throttle: Sudden acceleration and high-speed turns can stress your PWC’s engine and other parts. Be gentle with the throttle and try to avoid sudden movements.
By following these tips, you can help extend your PWC’s lifespan and enjoy it for many years to come.

If you are involved in a boat or jet ski accident, having Insurance can help you in several ways. First and foremost, Insurance can help cover the costs of any damages or injuries resulting from the accident, which can be substantial. Depending on the terms of your policy, your Insurance may cover repair or replacement costs for your vessel, medical expenses, and other costs associated with injuries sustained by you or others involved in the accident.
Additionally, Insurance can provide legal protection if you are sued due to the accident. Suppose you are found to be at fault for the accident. In that case, your insurance company may provide legal representation and cover any damages awarded against you up to the limits of your policy.
It’s important to note that insurance policies can vary widely in terms of coverage and exclusions, so it’s important to carefully review your policy and understand what is and isn’t covered. Remember to change the engine’s gear oil to winterize your boat. If your boat has an inboard/outdrive engine, it’s also important to flush and replace the lower unit gear case lubricant. Doing so helps to keep the internal parts free of water damage and ensures that your boat is ready to go when the warmer weather returns.
If you don’t change your engine oil before winterizing your boat, the oil left in the engine can break down and become contaminated over time. This can lead to corrosion, sludge buildup, and other issues that can damage the internal parts of your engine. Additionally, if water gets into the engine oil, it can freeze and cause damage to the engine’s components. Changing your engine oil before winter is essential to ensure your boat stays in good condition and is ready to go when warmer weather returns.

When it comes to Jet ski safety, using a life jacket is crucial. Wearing a life jacket can prevent accidents and ensure safety while riding a Jet ski. Life jackets can save your life by providing buoyancy in water and keeping your head above water, even if you are unconscious. A life jacket can make a huge difference in keeping you safe and preventing drowning in an accident or emergency. It is crucial to choose the right size and type of life jacket and ensure it is properly fastened and worn at all times when in or near water. Always remember to wear a life jacket and make it a top priority.
The best life jacket depends on your needs and the activities you plan to engage in. A Type III life jacket is a good choice for general water activities such as boating and Jet skiing. It provides good buoyancy, is comfortable to wear, and allows for good mobility. A Type V life jacket may be more appropriate if you are engaging in more extreme water sports such as whitewater rafting or kayaking. It is important to choose a life jacket that fits well, is comfortable, and is approved by the US Coast Guard.
