The home study course covers the same information as the Texas Parks and Wildlife boater education program, and also qualifies you for the same insurance discounts as the class option.
What does the home study kit include?
- INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO
- An informative and entertaining overview of boating procedures. Subjects include launching and docking, rules of the waterways, safety equipment, how to avoid accidents, laws on drinking while boating, and more. View with the entire family and help ensure a safe boating season.
- INSTRUCTION MANUAL
- A written guide on boating laws and regulations, navigation rules, and how to handle boating emergencies. Includes chapter review exercises.
- STATE OF TEXAS CERTIFICATION TEST
- A mail-in test to take at home. Required for state certification.
- I want my whole family to take the course — do I have to buy a home study course for each of us?
- No, the first copy is $24.95. For the rest of the family, we sell additional manuals for $10 each. Every student is required to have a manual and a state certification test. The manual includes workbook exercises and the state certification test.

- Order by mail or fax. Download and print out the Boat Ed order form.
STEP 2: View the 70 minute BOAT TEXAS video. Study the manual and complete the chapter review exercises.
For Safety Certification And To Qualify for Insurance Discounts …
STEP 3: Take the enclosed test and mail in the test answer sheet to BoatEd, Inc. with a $10.00 state required certification fee.
STEP 4: Once you’ve passed the test, you will receive your boating safety certificate.
STEP 5: Send a copy of your boating safety certificate to your insurance agent to receive boating safety discounts.
